Genocides After the Holocaust

Over the past couple of weeks, we've been learning about the Holocaust and other genocides that happened after it. We made this slideshow to teach people about what we have gained knowledge about from the end of the year.

Why learning about the United Nations and Sustainable Development Goals has influenced me.

Being able to research and gain knowledge about the United Nations and Sustainable Development Goals really got me to see the world from a new perspective. Exploring one specific goal let me figure out the importance of one topic at a time. I’ve begun to see ways that we can help, for example turning off lights when we leave a room, which helps because you aren’t wasting electricity (This helps Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy because they focus on saving energy).  Something else that helps is writing something down instead of printing it out. This way, you aren’t wasting paper. (This helps Goal 15: Life on Land because they focus on protecting forests.).  These are simple things that I started to pay more attention to, that I didn’t even realize could be helpful to the Sustainable Development Goals. Learning about these goals is important, because you can learn so much about the world, that you didn’t occur to you before. When we first started this project, we were asked the question, “How much impact do you think that you have on the world, as a 7th grade student?”. I didn’t think that we could really have any impact on the world because I thought that people only listen to adults, and there isn’t much that a 7th grader could do to help the planet. Now that I have spent my time doing all of this research, I’ve changed my answer. It doesn’t matter if we’re in 7th grade, we’re doing research and writing argument pieces to try to help the world. If we believe that we can do it, then we’re going to try our best until we’ve accomplished what we’ve been striving for. In the future, I can see myself continuing to learn about the United Nations and Sustainable Development Goals, and trying to discover more about the world, and how I can influence the world.

Election Issues and Presidential Candidates of 2016

I learned many things throughout the experience of learning about election issues and the candidates.
One of the things that I learned was that their were four candidates running for president (Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Gary Johnson, and Jill Stein).
I assumed that the only two candidates in the election were Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
Something else that I thought was interesting was that all of the candidates had different opinions on different topics. Sometimes three of the candidates would be on the “Pro” side, and one candidate would be on the “Con” side. Or there would be two candidates on each of the sides. It would always depend on the election issue.
A lot of the issues that I read about, I didn’t even know were happening. For example, the federal minimum wage issue and that the debate about having more restrictions to purchasing a gun.
Reading about all of these issues, really brought me to see how we can make the world a better place.

Google Tips

1. You should use both closed and open questions.  If you want a quick answer, you should use a closed question. A closed question gives you an answer in just one or two words, or a list. If you’re looking for a long answer, let’s just say a research project, you should use an open question. An open question gives an answer in a paragraph or a couple of sentences. Both types of questions are used for different purposes, but they both end up being very useful when it comes to what kind of answer you’re looking for.

  1. You should use Google Search tips. Using Google Search Tips are really helpful when you’re doing a research project or even just looking up something for fun. The tips will give you more accurate results when typing something into the Google Search bar. An example on how to do this, is putting quotations around what’s typed in your search bar. By doing this, results will come up with the whole phrase in it, instead of having results come up with one or two words put randomly in different pages.
